Cooper AT3 4S Review Oct 2024: Why Should You Buy This Product?

discoverer at3 4s reviewThe Discoverer AT3 by Cooper is a mud and snow rated all-terrain tire that is exceptionally efficient at tackling the roughest of terrains thrown at it.

This is a tire which I got to test out extensively while on a two-week long road trip across a few states that had us traveling through a lot of different types of terrain.

With extensive hands-on experience with the Discoverer AT3, I can quite confidently recommend these tires to all of you looking for a multi-purpose, all-terrain set for your LT or SUVs.

Here are a few things I liked about these tires:

Multi-faceted Tread Blocks

As is the case with most of Cooper’s premium tires, the construction on the Discoverer AT3 comes with several premium features that make it one of the best in the market.

Just one look at the sidewall, and you’ll notice the prominent M+S symbol which indicates that these tires are ready to take on the harshest of road conditions, from freezing wet roads to the boiling hot tarmac of the summers.

It also features a multi-faceted tread block which provides outstanding steering response and a firm grip on the road surface. With these tires equipped to my car, I noticed a lot more in control over the steering than I usually would with tires from cheaper brands.

Even when driving through some pretty muddy roads, the handling was surprisingly enjoyable thanks to interlocking multi-faceted tread blocks.

Top Notch Durability

All-terrain tires tend to take a lot more beating than their counterparts. For this reason, these tires are designed keeping durability in mind, and Cooper has done an excellent job when it comes to this aspect.

The Discoverer AT3 is a radial tire which uses ply cords alongside steel belts to give you a longer tread life and protection against punctures.

It also uses an advanced Adaptive-Traction Technology Silica-based compound and a Secure-Grip all-terrain tread design, making it highly adaptive to a wide range of road conditions which enhances durability significantly. The Mileage Warranty on these tires is an impressive 65,000 miles.

Commendable Tread Design

cooper discoverer a t3 4s reviewWhen I took the time to examine the tread pattern on the Cooper Discoverer AT3s, I was really impressed with the superior quality of its design. Cooper has really put some serious efforts into ensuring these tires provide the maximum traction possible.

The company certifies that these tires provide around 60% traction on sand and road, and about 40% traction on dirt and mud. The distinctive, symmetric, five-rib tread pattern is responsible for the superior grip it has on off-road trails, while the divided middle rib strikes a good balance between off-road traction and its on-road capabilities.

On top of the superior tread design, these tires come with the ability to self-clean its grooves and get rid of any small stones, cinders or rocks that might get stuck between the treads. This is a great feature to have in all-terrain tires!

Great Performance Under Wet Conditions

The Discoverer AT3 by Copper performs incredibly well when it comes to wet surfaces.

The Silica-based formulation used for the construction of these tires gives them a superior level of stability when turning on wet surfaces or doing rapid lane changing maneuvers.

Personally, I’ve tested very few tires that come close to the performance that these tires exhibit when it comes to driving in wet surfaces. So if you’re someone that needs excellent wet performance, these are probably one of the best options at the moment.

What Could Have Been Better?

Snow performance could have been better

While I did not get enough experience riding on snow with these tires, the little driving I did on some freshly powder-covered tracks was enough to tell me their performance was below par.

These tries seemed to struggle to move up-hill in snowy tracks, and it can certainly be improved.

A bit on the expensive side

These tires certainly do not fit the criteria of a budget set of all-terrain tires, and so if you’re looking for an affordable set of tires, you’ll need to look elsewhere.

These tires are priced a little on the higher end of the budget, but considering the value it provides, the price is more than justified.

Pros

Pros:
  • Excellent Traction on off-road surfaces
  • Self-cleaning mechanism provides additional durability and protection against punctures
  • Multi-faceted Tread Blocks enhance handling
  • Excellent performance on both wet and dry surfaces

Cons

Cons:
  • A little expensive
  • Below par performance in snowy conditions

Final Verdict

If you’re looking for a set of high-quality all-terrain tires to hit the trail this summer, the Discoverer AT3 by Cooper is definitely worth your consideration.

It’s hard to find tires that provide this level of durability, on top of the exceptional traction on off-road surfaces. While the price is indeed a little steep, the value you get with these tires is unmatched.

Overall, I highly recommend these tires to owners of Light Trucks and SUVs that are planning on doing a lot of off-roading through challenging terrain.
