Achilles ATR Sport Review Oct 2024: Why buy this product?
Let’s just start off by saying that the Achilles ATR Sport 2 tires offer more than what you need for summer performance tires. They can be installed in almost any vehicle, including light trucks and SUVs.
However, do remember that these are road tires. So, if you need to use your vehicle off-road, these won’t do the job.
Now, let’s find out which features impressed us the most.
Impressive Wet Traction
We tested this set of tires on our 2018 Honda Accord, and one of the things that stood out immediately was the handling improvement under wet conditions.
The stock tires of the Accord didn’t do a bad job, to be honest, but the ATR Sport 2 was clearly a step above. In fact, we experienced significantly better launches under wet conditions compared to the stock offerings.
We believe that the four circumference grooves play a major role here. The grooves help in channeling water properly and reduces hydroplaning, and this improves traction on wet and slippery surfaces significantly.
Great Stability and Cornering Performance
After testing this product, one thing was quite clear – Achilles doesn’t compromise on the tread design.
The directional tread design along with the interlocking tread block goes a long way in improving traction and cornering performance. Our test car felt a lot more fun while cornering at high speeds, and that’s something we just can’t say about the stock tires.
The stock treads didn’t offer much confidence to begin with and cornering was more of a chore than something fun and exciting. The ATR Sport 2 actually managed to put a smile on our faces and inspired confidence too. What more could we ask for?

Straight Line Stability
One of the defining features of this product is surely the solid center rib. This helps in improving the straight-line stability by a fair bit.
In fact, compared to our 2018 Accord’s stock tires, the ATR Sport 2 tires performed miles better. Not only did it grip the road better, but it also showed major improvements with the ride quality.
Even at speeds of 130 mph, the car maintained its composure, and we felt more confident driving it at higher speeds compared to the stock treads.
Excellent Value
After completing our tests with the ATR Sport 2, we were convinced that this set of tires offers great value. Honestly, this product does almost everything that performance tires from high-end brands are known for. But despite that, these tires come at a much lower price tag. Furthermore, we believe that these treads are a significant upgrade over most stock offerings.
What could’ve been better?
During the testing period, we didn’t run into any major issues. However, after verifying from a few other trusted sources, we can say that the sidewalls may not be the most durable. If you happen to drive over rough surfaces regularly, the ATR Sport 2 may not be the ideal choice.
Having said that, we believe that going for a higher weight rating should counter this problem.
Pros
- Impressive value for money
- Commendable straight-line performance
- Excellent stability
- Effortless cornering at high speeds
Cons
- Sidewall could be more durable
Verdict
If you are interested in this tire set, chances are that you mainly drive on the road and not off it. And if that is the case, you really can’t go wrong at this price.
Sure, it might not be as durable as some of the premium offerings on the market, but we are quite certain that those tire sets are out of your budget. In our opinion, the Achilles ATR Sport 2 tires are among the best options you can find for low-end summer performance tires.
